[ Descriptions ] [ Tanguay Instructions ]
Since each series of the "Complement to Tanguay" was a work in itself, the formats vary slightly between the two, so each will be explained below. In both series, the marriages are listed alphabetically by the Groom Surname (capitalized).
Example1 of Complement record.
1. SERIES-1: The top image at right (Complement, series-1, p.75) represents a record for Joseph Fortin that was not in Tanguay. The superscript '37' after the given name refers to a footnote at the bottom of that page, that reads "Pas dans Tanguay", which means "not in Tanguay".

3. The record for Joseph Fortin, who married three times, lists each marriage; 1st to Jeanne Lorain, 2nd to Marie Goguet, and 3rd to Marie-Anne Morin.

4. Parents are listed in parentheses after the person's name. Since the 3rd wife (Marie-Anne Morin) is the widow (veuve) of Jean Prud'homme, her previous spouse is listed. You need to lookup her marriage to Jean Prud'homme to find her parents.

5. The page numbers at the end of the record (pp. 68, 69, 71.), refer to the related page in Tanguay volumes 2-7 for each marriage.

.
6. SERIES-2: The bottom image at right (Complement, series-2, p.200) represents TWO records, one for Antoine Girard, and one for Jean-Baptiste (J.-Bte) Girard.
Example2 of Complement record.
7. Additions are marked either by an asterisk (*) or "X" at the end of the record, and a "C" marks corrections.

8. Parents are listed in parentheses after the person's name. Page numbers in the record (p. 288) refer to the related page in Tanguay volumes 2-7 for the marriage.

9. Antoine Girard married Desanges Forget at Varennes on 28 Jul 1794. The 'X' at the end of his record indicates that this marriage was not listed in Tanguay.

10. Jean-Baptiste Girard married Francoise Maranda at St. Laurent, Ile d'Orleans on 4 Apr 1796. In Jean-Baptiste's case, the (*) at the end of his record indicates this marriage was not listed in Tanguay.

SUMMARY: After obtaining a Tanguay marriage record, it should be updated to reflect the additions and corrections found in Series 1 & 2 of the Complement to Tanguay, then validated from the original church or notary records. If you still need help, please email AFGS at: membersonlyhelp@afgs.org
