The AFGS Library has over 20,000 books and repertoires of births, marriages, deaths, biographies, histories, family surnames, and places,
plus many other topics.
AFGS offers a 'Look-Up' service to provide members and non-members with information from our repertoires and books for a small fee.
Just let us know which specific information you need. All requests must contain the data type, name, month, year and place.
Without this information, your request is considered research, not a Look-Up request.
Repertoires and books are essential for doing your research. They may not be original records, but they are still necessary to gather data.
They can help you bust a 'brick wall', or keep you going in the right direction, before you spend time and money obtaining original records.
There are two steps to
Submit Your Look-Up Request:
1. Review the
AFGS Book Index to determine which book you want AFGS to review for you.
2. Download the
Mail-In Request Form and edit it on your computer, then EMAIL the completed form to AFGS.
The 'Look-Up' service does not include microfilm records, or research for lineages, pedigree charts or family group sheets.

AFGS charges a nominal fee for all Look-Up requests. Please note the following:
1. Prices (US$) are per record, except for multi-page documents (Biographies, Histories, etc.) where prices are per page.
2. Look-Ups will only include the specific data you request (with citation), not copies of entire chapters, or whole books.
3. If we cannot find the information, there will be no charge.
4. If you are an AFGS member, please fill in your membership number on the request form to obtain the lower member fee.
5. If the information is not where you asked us to look, and you requested 'expanded review(*)', the 'Expanded Review' fees apply.
6. If you request translation of the look-up, and the results are in French or Latin, then translation fees will be added.
7. We will notify you by email of what data we find to meet your request, along with the related fee for the information.
8. Prepayment is required. Payment within the US may be by check or credit card. Payment from outside the US must be by credit card.
9. All results will be sent to you via email (preferred). If you request hardcopies, the photo copy fees below will be added.
10. Hardcopies sent by postal mail will incure the postage & handling fee from Woonsocket, RI.

Expanded Review involves our looking for your data (including alternate dates & locations) in sources other than you requested.
If you want us to expand our review beyond the repertoire you requested, you must check the box under the listing on the
Look-Up Request Form.
